Deion Sanders Undergoes Second Surgery for Blood Clots, Misses Pac-12 Media Day

Deion Sanders, Colorado’s football coach, will miss the Pac-12 Conference’s football media day in Las Vegas due to another leg surgery. On Wednesday, Sanders announced his second surgery in four weeks on his son’s YouTube channel. In June, he had blood clots removed from his left thigh and below his left knee, and he had previously mentioned the need for more surgeries, including on his right thigh.

His right thigh clots will be removed and two toes on his left foot straightened during the surgery. After becoming the Buffaloes’ coach in December, he was expected to draw media attention at Pac-12 media day, but this latest health setback prevents him from attending.

Despite his struggles, Sanders is optimistic about his recovery and coaching. He believed he would play in the team’s first game against TCU on September 2.

Sanders has had leg and foot issues since 2021, when he missed three games as Jackson State’s coach. Blood clots in his left leg caused the amputation of his big toe, the toe next to it, and parts of his left calf. He’s recovered, but his two abnormally bent toes still hurt.

The athlete-turned-coach stressed that he is undeterred and believes in his God-given ability. Even though he’s having surgery again, he’s committed to his team and coaching.

Shedeur, CU’s quarterback, will represent the team at media day in Sanders’ absence. Pac-12 coaches and players will address the media.

Sanders will return to coaching in time for fall camp, according to the Colorado University administration. Despite the setback, Sanders remains focused on leading his team to success in the upcoming football season.
