Escape from the Taliban: Afghan Girls’ Inspiring Journey Revealed on 60 Minutes
In a compelling segment on 60 Minutes, correspondent Lesley Stahl shed light on the inspiring story of SOLA (School of Leadership Afghanistan), an all-girls boarding school in Afghanistan. Forced to evacuate Kabul when the Taliban seized control of the country following the U.S. military withdrawal in August 2021, SOLA found refuge in Rwanda, where it continues to provide education to girls from sixth to twelfth grades. Many of its high school students now attend boarding schools abroad.
The Taliban’s oppressive regime has imposed severe restrictions on girls’ education, limiting it to only sixth grade. As SOLA’s high school students honed their public speaking skills, 60 Minutes had the privilege of capturing their personal accounts of their final moments in Afghanistan and the profound value they place on their education. Watch the emotional testimonials of these resilient students as they share their experiences firsthand in the accompanying video.
